Arcane — Ekko | Vector Illustration
Capturing Ekko’s high-velocity Zaun energy was all about letting that blinding neon green radiance tear straight through the heavy shadow work. The core design challenge was utilizing the dynamic perspective on the hoverboard and weapon to give the whole layout an immediate sense of forward motion. Engineered for high-saturation display, the piece leans heavily into a gritty Zaun aesthetic and extreme contrast built specifically for physical print display.
01 — VECTOR ARCHITECTURE & SILHOUETTE
Establishing the Foundation. The dynamic perspective on the hoverboard and weapon gives the whole layout an immediate sense of forward motion. Clean, resolution-independent linework dictates the flow of the composition, ensuring the foundation is solid so the fine vector linework on his face and gear don't get swallowed up on physical print.
02 — CHARACTER RENDER & VALUE STRUCTURE
Shadow Mapping & Base Colors. When working with this much high-saturation electric green light, getting the dark ink shadows grounded on his outfit and leather harness is critical. This stage locks in the warm skin tones and sets the heavy value structure before the extreme neon environmental lighting is introduced.
03 — ENVIRONMENT & WORLD-BUILDING
Injecting the Underground Energy. Integrating the gritty Zaun aesthetic directly into the background. This step focuses on layering the spray-paint textures to ground the character in his environment and push the graphic narrative. The graphic green splashes provide a high-contrast anchor for Ekko's silhouette.
04 — ATMOSPHERIC LIGHTING & PRINT FINISH
The Final Polish & FX. Dialed in intense rim lighting across his dreads and red scarf to lock his dynamic hoverboard pose right in the center, while layering glowing particle FX to hit that exact, raw Arcane aesthetic. The final color grade maximizes the vibrant neon green rendering, strictly optimizing the extreme contrast built specifically for physical print display.
